Course content

  • Evaluate your own work and that of your peers.
  • Draw and paint from direct observation, secondary sources (photos etc), memory and imagination.
  • Look at and gain inspiration from other artists looking at their styles, approaches and techniques.
  • Experiment with a variety of mediums, eg paint, pencil and charcoal, in order to further develop techniques.
  • Explore drawing techniques using line, tone, texture, form and shape.
  • Extend your understanding of colour theory and how to use this in your own work.

About Course

A course which covers the key elements of art and encourages learners to develop these in their own personal direction. Initial sessions shall look at core subjects such as drawing, tone, colour, painting techniques, as well as looking at the work of historical and contemporary artists. Each learner will then be encouraged to develop this in a direction which will further develop their own personal interests such as exploring traditional watercolours, developing their work into textiles pieces or 3 dimensional work. There will be a different personal project for each course

Course content:

We shall look to build on your exisiting knowledge of the key components of art, exploring new ways to approach these and looking at different techniques. In the second half of this 10 week course, you will be encouraged to develop work in your own style.

What do I need to do this course?

Learners will need some basic materials such as suitable paper, pencils, charcoals and paints. They will need further materials depending on the direction they choose to take their personal work.

  • Learners should have some basic experience and understanding of art.

    How is your progress checked?

    Individual feedback will be given during the session, as well as group evaluations. There shall be reviews of progress at intervals throughout the course with evidence shown in sketchbooks and completed work

    Extra study or practice required at home.

    Extra practice at home will be encouraged, as this tends to produce a greater progression in the subject.


    What can I do after this course?

    This course can be continued and developed to suit your own personal style or there are other courses in the arts available at PACA.
