Course content

  • Apply good understanding of mixing colours.
  • Use a variety of marks and discuss whether they are right for the painting.
  • Discuss composition.
  • Use washes confidently in a painting.


In this two and a half hour class we will be exploring the various techniques of watercolour, developing your unique style and becoming more in tuned with the medium. There will be regular demonstrations throughout the eight weeks. There is always lots of friendly help and advice on hand throughout the duration of the course. Each course covers new themes so that repeat students can enjoy new subjects each time.

Course content:

Your safety is our priority, and in these unprecedented times we need to make some changes until it is safe to welcome you all into class.

Your classes will be taught with a choice of either online or classroom activities in a safe, socially distanced environment.

However, nobody needs to come into class until they feel happy to do so, all the materials you need to succeed will be online, and if you choose to stay home, we will make sure you will receive all the support you need via email, phone and through our Virtual Learning Environment.

We shall go though a series of genres, including still life, landscapes with figures, and architecture.


  • Some previous experience of painting, either self-taught or from another class.

What do I need to do this course?

Watercolour paint box and a selection of watercolour brushes, watercolour pad and a sketch pad.

If you are intending to attend this course online you will need the following:

  • Internet access
  • A computer with a webcam or a smartphone
  • A peaceful place to participate in the course from
  • An email account

Teaching Methods

  • Demonstrations, internet references and books.

    How is your progress checked?

    Tutor discussion and and at the end we have a friendly group discussion.

    Extra study or practice required at home.

    Practising at home is advisable.

    What can I do after this course?

    Another course, or continue into next term in order perfect techniques and cover new themes.
