Description

After this 10 week course not only will you be better able to help your child with their maths homework, but you will feel more confident generally with your own maths skills. You will also discuss how to prioritise what you should be helping your child with and how to effectively give manageable feedback so that your child can make progress. The class is online using the Microsoft Teams platform so you have the convenience of meeting new people and studying from home.

Course content:

  • No qualification – you will have individual SMART targets
  • Initial assessment in class to check what you know already and what you need to learn, this information will identify gaps in your knowledge and skills to be closed
  • Some whole class teaching where there are common skills needs but there will be time in class for you to focus on what you need to work on
  • The tutor will agree on individual targets for you to work in the first 2/3 weeks on and you will work in class/outside class to close these identified gaps for the remainder of the course
  • An expectation that you will do homework and engage with Moodle in your own time to review learning and to work on identified targets

The course will look to support you and to make you feel more confident to help your child with their literacy skills and their school homework

You can directly progress to FREE Functional Skills in September or GCSE if that’s what you want. You might also wish to join a different class and there will be the opportunity to meet with the Curriculum Manager for a 1:1 IAG at the end of the course if you need guidance.
