  • 1A Low Light Photography Demonstrate good exposures in low light using exposure compensation. 3 Images 1B Low Light Photography Demonstrate good exposure and composition in low light using the shutter mode to capture motion. 3 images 1C Low Light Photography Demonstrate good exposure and composition in low light using hand held techniques and ISO control. 3 images
  • 2A Low Light Photography Make a series of 3 images in response to the filmic, or other, that clearly demonstrate the use of cropping. 2B Low Light Photography Make a series of 3 images in response to the filmic clearly demonstrating a control of depth of field. 3 images. 2C Low Light photography Make a series of 3 images in response to “the filmic” using clearly identified compositional techniques in 16:9 aspect ratio. 3 images

  • 5A Demonstrate research of other photographers reflecting on low light photography by uploading to padlet a found photographer of interest and stating why! 5B Demonstrate research of other photographers .By uploading a found image illustrating line, another illustrating shape and another illustrating form. 5C Demonstrate research of other photographers. Demonstrating how a chosen photographers images have affected your own approach to photography by photographing in their style

About Course

This course is aimed at DSLR and mirrorless camera users, ideally those that have completed part one of the course but newcomers are welcome and full technical support will be given. Over the course you will learn a range of important camera techniques as well as core compositional rules to add creativity and variety to your photography. You will also undertake fun and creative class assignments with plenty of hands on learning, with the added opportunity for a couple of lessons on location to practise your skills in the field! Some home assignments will also be set and you will be supported in developing a folio of creative images over the duration of the course.

Course content:

This course is ideal for those who attended part one of this course. But is suitable for all beginners. We will be learning how to master the camera in manual mode as well as which modes suit what conditions best.

Learn how to take contro of your camera to make more creative images. and learn good compositional skills.

Students will also be introduced to and encouraged to make images in response to a variety of different genres of photography as well as being inspired and learning from some of the great masters of photography.

What do I need to do this course?

A Dslr camera, memory card, fully charged battery, note pad and pen.

A tripod would be ideal, but if not owned, advice will be given over the duration of the course.

Feel free to bring any extra lenses and filters that you may wish learn about.

Teaching Methods

  • There will be tutor-led tutorials and hands-on practical exercises throughout the course with plenty of time allowed for you to explore and experiment. There will also be the opportunity for group discussions about a variety of photography topics and all subjects taught throughout the course will be supported by presentations, demonstrations and hand-outs. The course is also supported online via a secure group photography board where resources will be shared and students can share their images for tutor and peer to peer support.

    There will also be the opportunity to have lessons on location and hone your skills.


    How is your progress checked?

    Each technical skill taught will be accompanied by a challenge fo rthe student to undetake,,both in class with supervision and between lassons, as a self directed task.

    Students will be given feedback on their progress and guidance as to how to improve their skills and creativty.

    Learners will be encouraged to keep a learner diary and a folio of their images.

    This can be done digitally and via the class online image board.

    You will also get constructive and encouraging feedback on progress from the tutor and peers.

    Extra study or practice required at home.

    Assignments will be given for students to practise their new skills and engage with photography as a hobby. Assignments will be reviewed in class in a safe and positive environment for students to learn from, and be able to encourage each other’s progress.


    What can I do after this course?

    There is a further course, Introduction to Dslr Photography 3 which will progress from this course, with lots of great creative photography tutorials, techniques and projects.
