Description

This course is aimed at DSLR and mirrorless camera users. ideally those that have completed previous courses but also open to new comers. You will learn new advanced camera settings, take ultimate control of exposure as well as new dynamic compositional techniques. We will engage with a variety of genres of photography and develop your creativity in new and interesting ways with a variety of class assignments and home assignments. You will also have the opportunity to do some location workshops over the duration of the course.

Course content:

This course follows on from Part 2 BUT is also open to more confident photographers that may wish to join the course. Over the duration of the course we will develop the skills learnt previously while adding new techniques to your photography skill set. We will also look at different kinds of creative photography, such as Landscape photography, Long exposure photography, light painting, creative portraiture and macro photography. For those that have attended previous courses, there will be time to engage with your own personal projects and the tutor will tailor the course to encourage your own photography passions.

What do I need to do this course?

A Dslr camera, memory card, fully charged battery, note pad and pen. A tripod would be ideal, but if not owned, advice will be given over the duration of the course. Feel free to bring any extra lenses and filters that you may wish learn about.

Teaching Methods

  • There will be tutor-led tutorials and hands-on practical exercises throughout the course with plenty of time allowed for you to explore and experiment. There will also be the opportunity for group discussions about a variety of photography topics and all subjects taught throughout the course will be supported by presentations, demonstrations and hand-outs. There will also be the opportunity to have lessons on location and hone your skills photographing Brighton Pier and Coast Line and the South Downs among other locations.


    How is your progress checked?

    Learners will be encouraged to keep a learner diary and a folio of their images. This can be done digitally and via the PACA Moodle website. You will also get constructive and encouraging feedback on progress from the tutor and peers.

    Extra study or practice required at home.

    Assignments will be given for students to practise their new skills and engage with photography as a hobby. Assignments will be reviewed in class in a safe and positive environment for students to learn from, and be able to encourage each other’s progress.


    What can I do after this course?

    Next academic year there is the possibility of an Advanced DSLR course being run that will focus on applying and practising techniques learnt to a range of exciting projects tailored made to students individual interests. This will only run to meet demand so ensure you express an interest and are signed up to the mailing list for news of new and exciting photography courses coming up at AAL.
