About Course

This is an ESOL Book Club aimed at improving your reading and speaking skills in a fun, relaxed way.

Course content:

This is an ESOL Book Club aimed at improving your reading and speaking skills in a fun, relaxed way.

Every week, you will read a chapter and then will meet with your peers to discuss the book.

You will have the opportunity to engage into conversation and practise new vocabulary in a friendly environment.

What do I need to do this course?

We recommend you keep a vocabulary folder to be updated every session.

Books will be provided by AAL.

Requirements

  • You should already possess E2 Functional Skills or E2 ESOL Reading qualification or Entry 3 Speaking & Listening. IELTs 4.0 will also be recognised as an appropriate entry qualification. Otherwise you will need to demonstrate your level at an initial assessment session before you begin this course.

Teaching Methods

  • The method will be learner centred, using an authentic text to enhance your vocabulary. The tutor will guide the discussions, facilitating everybody's participation and prioritising fluency. There will be elements of peer learning and an expectation for high levels of independent learning.


    How is your progress checked?

    You will be encouraged to complete short reading tasks to check understanding.

    Extra study or practice required at home.

    You are expected to read a chapter per week.
