Whether you want to find a job or just talk with people around you, our ESOL courses will give you the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills you need. You will develop your confidence and skills at your own speed in lively and friendly classes and give you the chance to get a recognised qualification.
Learners will continue to develop both speaking and listening skills, along with reading and writing skills. However, the focus will be on achieving the course aims. There will also be a focus on local services, your local community, including radicalisation of UK citizens within the context of what constitutes citizenship within a democracy.
You should already possess E1 Speaking and Listening ESOL, KET (Key English Test) or you will take an initial assessments with us, which will show your starting point is one level below the level of this class.

The methods will be learner centred, often task based and often working in groups. You will write about a range of issues relevant to your needs to help you live in the community. There will be elements of peer learning and an expectation for high levels of independent learning using links on Moodle and other e-sources.
There is ongoing assessment and all assessments will be indicated on Moodle, to which you will have access before the course begins and for a month after your course finishes. You will also be given a hard copy Topic List (which will reflect the weeks on Moodle), which you can put in your class file to remind you when assessments are handed out and expected back in. some assessments will happen in class time and these will be indicated on your topic list and on Moodle. Feedback on any written work will follow the PACA feedback policy and scheme. Your teacher will give you a copy of this. We will use your initial Assessment before the class, and Diagnostic Assessment evidence collected in the first 2 weeks, to plan your learning journey and negotiate individual targets. We will record and monitor this in our own ILP (Individual Learning Plan).
There is an expectation that learners will engage in approximately 40 hours of independent study, i.e. 4 hours per week, to successfully complete the course. We expect that if you miss a class you will catch up by looking at what work was covered on Moodle. We expect you to look at Moodle many times during the week, engaging in blogs and chat rooms, as well as watching videos and engaging with other extension games and activities on Moodle in order to develop your reading skills.
