About Course

Learn how to make beautiful flower designs. This course is for those who love bringing flowers into their home or who may be considering a career in Ffloristry. There will be an introduction into basic floristry techniques so that you will be able to create unique designs for your home/events. Materials and equipment costs are extra.

Course content:

You will learn how to create a range of different kinds of flower arrangements. You will also learn about different types of flowers and foliage, colour schemes and design. You will also learn how to wire flowers in preparation for more advanced wedding work. You will learn how to care for your flowers to prolong their life.

What do I need to do this course?

- A bucket in which to place your flowers.
- Sturdy scissors or secateurs.
- A bin liner for your waste.
- Paper or cloth to work on; wallpaper remnants are ideal.

A kit for sundries and mechanics required for the five week course will be available to purchase from your tutor Nina Tucknott (approximate cost £35.00) on the first night. Alternatively, you can source your own and will be provided with a list to this effect.

Your tutor will let you know what flowers and foliage to bring along for the first evening session and she will then give you a handout for the materials required for the next week at the end of each session.

As a general rule, you will be sourcing readily available flowers and foliage, and the cost on a weekly basis will be around £5.00.

Requirements

  • You should enjoy being creative with flowers and have a desire to learn new floristry skills in a fun evening class environment.

  • Observing and listening to demonstrations each week and creating your own interpretation of the design.

    How is your progress checked?

    We will all look at our work, take photographs and use constructive criticism to assess each one. We will also set up a private WhatsApp group so that we can share our designs that way.

    Extra study or practice required at home.

    Read and enjoy flower books.
    Look in florist shops to acquaint yourself with the different flowers available.
    Visit any local or national events or competitions, i.e. The Chelsea Flower Show ot the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.


    What can I do after this course?

    A continuation course in the Spring.
