Description

Learn how to make beautiful flower designs. This course is for those who love bringing flowers into their home, or who are flower arranging for events or considering a career in floristry. An introduction into basic floristry techniques so that you will be able to create designs for your home. Materials and equipment are extra.

Course content:

You will learn how to create a range of different kinds of flower arrangements. You will also learn about different types of flowers and foliage, colour schemes and design. You will also learn how to wire flowers in preparation for more advanced wedding work. You will learn how to care for your flowers to prolong their life.

Requirements

  • You should enjoy being creative with flowers and have a desire to learn new floristry skills in a fun evening class, creating your own arrangements.

What do I need to do this course?

- A bucket in which to place your flowers.
- Sturdy scissors or secateurs and a sharp knife.
- A cloth and a bin liner for your waste.
- Paper to work on to clear away flower waste.

Oasis, containers, cellophane, wires and other equipment can be purchased from the tutor, or you can bring your own.
A list of items will be provided nearer the course start date, detailing items that need to be brought to the first evening session. The tutor will give you a handout for the materials for the next week at the end of each session.

    We will all look at our work, take photographs and use constructive criticism.

  • Extra study or practice required at home.

    Read and enjoy flower books.

  • Look in florist shops to acquaint yourself with the different flowers available.
  • Visit any local or national events or competitions, i.e. The South of England Show, The Chelsea Flower Show, Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.


  • What can I do after this course?

    A continuation course in the Spring.
