Description

Learn how to make beautiful flower designs. This course is for those who love bringing flowers into their home or who may be considering a career in floristry. There will be an introduction into basic floristry techniques so that you will be able to create unique designs for your home/events. Materials and equipment are extra.

Course content:

You will also learn about different types of flowers and foliage, colour schemes and design. You will also learn how to wire flowers in preparation for more advance wedding work. And you will learn how to care for your flowers to prolong their life.

Requirements

  • You should enjoy being creative with flowers and have a desire to learn new floristry skills in a fun evening class environment. You will appreciate the wellness factor which comes with working with flowers and with creating your own arrangements each week to take home and enjoy.

What do I need to do this course?

  • A bucket to place your flowers in
  • Sturdy scissors or secateurs and a sharp knife
  • Old newspaper to work on as well as a black sack to clear away flower waste

Before the onset of the course, a floristry pack will be made availble for you to purchase via your tutor at a competitive price. Alternatively, you can make arrangements to source all materials required yourself.

Please bring with you flowers and foliage suggested for each session as well as what is listed above.

Each week, your tutor will email you a handout of the materials required for the following week.

Teaching Methods

  • Watching and listening to demonstrations each week and creating your own interpretation of the design. One to one help and advice, discussions, email handouts and observations. A WhatsApp group will also be set up after Lesson One so that designs can be shared and discussed.

    How is your progress checked?

Every week you will make a new design and at the end of the session we will look at it together and discuss it. You will be encouraged to photograph your work too; this is a great visual aide and will help you to spot any possible gaps and will thus assist in your achieving your full potential.

Extra study or practice required at home.

Read and enjoy flower books and magazines. Look in florist shops to acquaint yourself with the different flowers available. Visit any local or national events or competitions, e.g. The RHS Chelsea Flower Show, Hampton Court Palace Flower Show and other RHS events, as well as cathedral festivals.

Watch YouTube tutorials and get inspiration via Pinterest.
