Learn how to make beautiful floral designs. This course is for those who love bringing flowers into their home or who may be considering a career in floristry. There will be an introduction into basic floristry techniques so that you will be able to create unique designs for your home/events. Materials and equipment are extra.
You will learn how to create a range of different kinds of floral styles. You will also learn about different types of flowers and foliage, colour schemes and design ideas. Furthermore, you will also learn how to wire flowers in preparation for more advanced floristry work. And you will learn how to care for your flowers to prolong their life.
You should enjoy being creative with flowers and have a desire to learn new floristry skills in a fun evening class environment. You will appreciate the wellness factor which comes with working with flowers and with creating your own arrangements each week to take home and enjoy. A me-time moment in our busy lives is very beneficial for body and soul.
Before the onset of the course, a floristry pack will be made availble for you to purchase via your tutor at a competitive price. Alternatively, you can make arrangements to source all materials required yourself.
Please bring with you flowers and foliage suggested for each session as well as what is listed above.
Each week, your tutor will email you a handout of the materials required for the following week.
Observing and listening to the virtual demonstration (for approximately 30 minutes) each week and then going away and creating your own interpretation of the design (for approximately 1 hour) before reconvening for another virtual session to share and discuss the work.
Everyone will be encouraged to offer constructive criticism so that we all learn together.
At the end of each lesson, we will all look at the work which has been produce and use constructive criticism to help us develop our own styles. A WhatsApp group will also be set up giving us the chance to share photographs of our designs.
Read and enjoy flower books and magazines.
Look in florist shops to acquaint yourself with the different flowers available. Study the variety of foliage available.
Visit any local or national events or competitions once Covid-19 allows... Find designer florists to follow on Instagram and Facebook. During class Nina will recommend some of her favourites too.
You may consider a career in floristry and may look at accredited courses available at specialist colleges to help you achieve this.
