  • You must be able to provide your certificate as evidence.

  • Any learner that is still keen to join GCSE that does not meet the requirements can join a Functional Skills Pre-GCSE class and will be given the opportunity to pass level 2 Functional Skills allowing them to transfer to GCSE.

  • All learners no matter what their prior qualifications are will need to be assessed prior to enrollment. The assessments will be booked for you when you contact us.

What do I need to do this course?

  • 30cm ruler graduated in centimetres and millimetres
  • protractor
  • pair of compasses
  • 2 x black biro pens
  • A selection of coloured pens for self-marking
  • Highlighters to traffic-light topics
  • 2 x sharp HB pencils
  • Eraser
  • A Casio fx-83GT PLUS Scientific Calculator

Teaching Methods

  • The lesson is spilt into three parts. The first hour consists of formal of the more difficult topics within the syllabus. The second hour consists of using sample, mock and past exam materials. The third hour is for support with self-directed study tasks.

  • How is your progress checked?

Progress is checked weekly using MathsWatch, Method Maths and Moodle.

  • There are three formal mock assessments, one in October, December and February. This helps to determine any additional support needs and to decide upon whether candidates will be sitting the Foundation or Higher Tier.

  • Extra study or practice required at home.

Learners are expected to review their weekly notes and use MathsWatch to secure their learning. Learners are also expected to spend time working on past, mock and sample assessments.

  • Grade 1 and 2 topics are mainly self-study but opportunities are given in class to support any misconceptions. Learners are expected to spend at least three hours a week on self-study at home.

  • What can I do after this course?

Maths GCSE is a requirement for some careers or for entry to further education in some subjects. Unsuccessful candidates will have the opportunity to re-take in November following their summer exams.
