Description

Being confident with maths is essential for life. Whether you're managing your finances, shopping for groceries or helping your child with their homework, being able to do basic maths is vital. This FREE 10-week course will give you the opportunity to build your confidence and improve your Maths skills. You'll be supported by a tutor who is experienced at working with learners who may lack confidence and feel anxious about Maths.

Course content:

In this course, you will cover a variety of topics related to numbers and their applications in real life. We will begin by reviewing basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using both traditional and alternative methods. Next, we will explore fractions, decimals, and percentages and how they are used in everyday life. You will also learn about finding area and perimeter, as well as special numbers such as square roots and powers. By the end of this course, you should have a good understanding of how to use numbers in practical ways.

Requirements

  • To join this course you must be over 19 and be a resident of Brighton & Hove who do not have a level 2 Functional Skills or GCSE grade C/4 maths qualification. The course is free to attend, but we do ask for a commitment to attend all 10 sessions.

Teaching Methods

  • In this class, we will combine teaching of skills with opportunities to practise these skills using real-life examples. You may choose to work alone, in pairs, or with support from the tutor. Resources such as number lines and multiplication tables will be available to support learning.

    How is your progress checked?

One of the first things you'll do is take an Initial assessment. This is just to get a sense of your starting level of confidence with the material. Don't worry, there's no pass or fail - it's just for us to understand where you're starting from.

As you work through the course, we'll be giving you feedback along the way. This is so you can check your understanding and progress. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. We're here to help you learn.

At the end of the course, there will be a final assessment. This is to check your progress and see how much you've learned. Again, there's no pass or fail - we just want to see how far you've come.

Extra study or practice required at home.

Optional worksheets will be provided at the end of each session for learners to practise skills
