Course content

  • A brief history of Irish Dancing.
  • Posture and positioning for arms and feet.
  • Walk through the basic steps of Irish Dance.
  • Put steps to music.
  • Progress to group and set dances.

Description

A perfect way to make friends, get fit and have fun whilst learning a new skill. This is a class for complete beginners and those with a little knowledge of Irish Dance. You will learn the basic steps of Reels and Jigs, dancing in time to music and then move on to group and set dances. Bring along a bottle of water, a passion for Irish music and comfortable footwear such as plimsolls or dance trainers.

Plimsolls or dance trainers.
Suitable clothing for dancing.

Teaching Methods

  • Demonstrations by the tutor.
    Observation of the tutor and more advanced students.
    Practice during class, and at home.

    Observation of students.
    Question and answer sessions.
    One to one conversation.

    Extra study or practice required at home.

    It is always beneficial for students to practice inbetween classes.


    What can I do after this course?

    This course continues for a further term and will progress to more challenging steps and group dances. There is always more to learn.
