Description

In the Italian beginners autumn term you will learn about: Interacting with native speakers, asking and answering simple questions, greeting people and introducing yourself, introducing someone, asking and giving personal details, asking for spelling of words, nationality and age, asking for and giving telephone numbers, ordering in a café, restaurant, asking prices and bills and speaking formally

Course content:

Students will learn the Italian alphabet and how to spell words. During the course, personal pronouns, articles and feminine and masculine words (singular and plural forms) will be taught, as well as present sentences ending in -are and -ere. Moreover, students will study the use of prepositions, substantives and how to formulate interrogative questions.

Requirements

  • All students are welcome to join, as no previous knowledge of Italian is required.

What do I need to do this course?

The book that will be used in this course is called 'Nuovo Espresso, A1,' Alma Edizioni, 2014 (student book). It is important to buy the book with the CD included. Moreover, students will need to bring their own notebook.

Teaching Methods

  • During the course, students will work individually, in pairs and in groups. Each lesson will focus on a specific linguistic area using different learning methods such as: gist/detailed reading, listening, writing and speaking activities.

    At the beginning of each lesson, there will be a little group discussion where students can express their doubts or opinion about what was learnt in the previous lesson. In order to improve their skills, students will also practise the language with the videocorso.


    How is your progress checked?

    Progress will be tested in each lesson with exercises. At the end of each unit, students will complete a test and then discuss the results and any concerns with the tutor. There is no final exam for this course.

    Extra study or practice required at home.

    At the end of each lesson, students will be given homework. All students are strongly encouraged to create a personal notebook containing the vocabulary, verbs and expressions studied during the couurse. In addition to this, students can also practise the language by using the ALMATV website, where they can find extra exercises and video.
