In this course, you will learn how to better support your Year 7/8 child with their maths homework and feel more confident in general when it comes to doing mathematics.
This maths course covers all the topics you need to know to get confident with numbers. We'll start with the basics of addition and subtraction, then move on to multiplication and division (including times tables). Once you're comfortable with those, we'll introduce multiples and factors, algebra, perimeter and area, and data charts. Whether you're a complete beginner or just need a refresher, this course will give you the skills and knowledge you need.
This course is designed for those who does not have a Level 2 Functional Skills or GCSE grade C/4 in Maths. You must be aged 19 or over and live in Brighton and Hove. The course is free but we do ask for a commitment to attend the whole 10 weeks. This is to ensure that you get the most out of the course and gain the skills you need.
The secondary school maths specialist will use Powerpoint presentations to demonstrate how pupils in secondary school are taught these key skills.
Learners will then have the opportunity to practise using a choice of methods.
One of the first things you'll do is take an initial quiz. This is just to get a sense of your starting level of confidence with the material. Don't worry, there's no pass or fail - it's just for us to understand where you're starting from.
As you work through the course, we'll be giving you feedback along the way. This is so you can check your understanding and progress. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. We're here to help you learn.
At the end of the course, there will be a final quiz. This is to check your progress and see how much you've learned. Again, there's no pass or fail - we just want to see how far you've come.
Optional worksheets on session skills will be provided
You can join our Functional skills/GCSE maths if you want to improve your skills further.
