Planning a holiday to Spain? Or interested in the language? This is an opportunity to learn a new language and find out a little about Spanish culture. The class will emphasise the basic conversation required for holidays or social occasions. For absolute beginners with no previous knowledge of the language.You will learn about: Meeting and greeting people, saying where you are from – countries and nationalities, saying what you do – jobs and professions, talking about your family, ordering food and drink in a bar or restaurant, the Spanish alphabet, numbers, masculine/ feminine and plural forms, the verb SER, HAY – there is /there are and some common irregular verbs: QUERER, TENER

This course is for complete beginners or for those who know a few words and phrases and who would like to build on their knowledge. No qualifications needed - just a willingness to learn!
We will be using PASOS Book 1 (Student’s book). These are sometimes available in secondhand bookshops. The tutor will be able to advise further during the first lesson.
The emphasis will be on learning through communication, though grammar points will also be taught as appropriate.Teaching will be done through whole class work, individual work and small group and pair work.Methods of learning include role play, listening activities, games, music and interactive activities.
Progress will be checked informally throughout the course, by question and answer sessions during the class, observation by the tutor, and by games and quizzes. Homework will also be given as a means of assessing progress.
You will gain more from the course if you are able to do at least one hour of study at home in between the classes!
Spanish Beginners Term 2 will follow-on in January. Your tutor will be able to advise you further.
