Description

The main aim of the course is to consolidate prior learning and to build up confidence in speaking. We will deal with new grammar points as they arise, but the focus will be on developing conversational skills.

We will be looking at important life events and changes and how to talk about events in the past using different past tenses.

We will also look at personal characteristics and qualities and skills needed for different jobs.

Course content:

We will be looking at important life events and how to talk about events in the past using different past tenses, and we will study time phrases such as : desde hace/hace…que..

We will talk about significant changes in our lives and lifestyle, and look at verb verb phrases such as: volver a, empezar a, dejar de, acabar de….

We will also be looking at personal characteristics, and qualities and skills needed for different jobs, as well as qualities and characteristics we admire in a friend.

We will also look at how to form and use pronouns, and where to place them in a sentence.

The main aim of the course is to consolidate prior learning and to build up confidence in speaking. We will deal with new grammar points as they arise, but the focus will be on developing conversational skills. We will discuss topics such as the environment, current affairs and topics of cultural interest. Further topics for discussion will be decided by the group.

Requirements

  • You will need to have completed at least 1 year of prior study and will be able to use the present tense confidently. You will also need to be familiar with the future and main past tenses.

What do I need to do this course?

The tutor will advise students on textbooks and other resources on the first session.

We will using Pasos 2 (Coursebook), 3rd or 4th edition. The accompanying CD's are not essential for the course, but are recommended for private study and language development.

Teaching Methods

  • Teaching and learning will be conducted through the medium of whole class work, individual work, and pair and group work. We will develop listening skills through listening activities, songs, and video clips, and we will consolidate and develop our knowledge of vocabulary and confidence in speaking through games, role play and other interactive activities. We will using Pasos 2, and the accompanying CD's are not essential for the course, but are recommended for private study and language development.


    How is your progress checked?

    Progress will be checked informally throughout the course through question and answer sessions in class, feedback, and the marking and assessing of homework.

    There will be no formal accreditation for this course, but a certificate of attendance may be issued at the end of the course for those who wish it.

    Extra study or practice required at home.

    You will gain more from the course if you are able to spend at least 1 hour of private study between each session.


    What can I do after this course?

    There will be a follow- on course in January. Your tutor will advise you of this.
