This is a higher-level qualification in England designed for experienced early years professionals who want to progress into leadership roles within childcare and education settings.
This apprenticeship is equivalent to a foundation degree and allows individuals to develop advanced skills while continuing to work in their setting.
The role of an Early Years Lead Practitioner involves working directly with children aged birth to eight, while also leading the quality of practice within a setting. Practitioners are responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating learning experiences, as well as supporting children’s development, wellbeing, and safeguarding. In addition, they mentor and guide colleagues, helping to improve overall standards and outcomes.
Key areas of learning include child development, leadership and management, safeguarding, inclusive practice, and assessment. Apprentices develop the ability to lead teams, support staff, and contribute to operational planning, ensuring high-quality early years provision.
Entry requirements vary depending on the provider, but applicants are usually expected to already be working in an early years setting and hold a Level 3 qualification, along with relevant experience.
Throughout the programme, apprentices are employed and receive a salary. Typical salaries vary depending on experience and employer.
Levy businesses can use their contributions to pay for this training. The costs will be £9,000.
Employers who do not pay the levy and employ less than 50 employees do not have to pay any training costs for apprentice’s aged between 16 and 21 years old.
If a learner is over 21 years old and/or your business has over 50 employees then you will contribute 5% towards the cost of the training, which would be £450 for this programme.
This apprenticeship is delivered by an industry competent expert through a combination of face to face and online tutorials (blended learning) giving the business and apprentices the greatest degree of flexibility – increasing capability and maintaining productivity.
20% of the training will take place Off the Job in the form of a wide range of activities, tutorial sessions, mentoring and self-study.
This apprenticeship is ideal for individuals who are committed to improving outcomes for children and are ready to take on leadership responsibilities within early years education.
A dedicated, experienced industry expert tutor will support employers and apprentices tailoring the training to the needs of the business guiding then through the apprenticeship step by step from the start to the End Point Assessment.
Assignments, reflective accounts, testimonies, witness statements and tutorials are all used to give our apprentices a mix of hands on and structured learning experience centred around the apprenticeship syllabus.
Our tutors will conscientiously arrange training around the requirements of both learners and employers.
An apprenticeship is a type of work-based training programme that combines practical on-the-job-training with forma face- to face or online training.
During an apprenticeship, apprentices work alongside experienced colleagues to gain hands-on experience and gain practical skills. They also attend off-the-job training sessions to learn the theoretical aspects of their role and industry. At the end of the apprenticeship, apprentices receive a nationally recognised qualification which demonstrates and confirms they have gained the knowledge, skills and behaviours to perform their job effectively.
Each apprenticeship is made up of on and off the job training. On the job training helps an apprentice to develop specific skills within the workplace supported by a workplace mentor. Off the job training is directly relevant to the apprenticeship standard, it can cover practical training such as shadowing, mentoring, industry visits and attending tutorials or competitions.
